The purpose of the By-Laws will be to establish a consistent and clear understanding of the purpose of the organization, establish officer roles, document the process for nominations and elections clearly, and present a framework that can be used for the upcoming 501C3 Non-Profit organization.

Haynes Street School Families,

READ ACROSS AMERICA and Dr. Seuss's Birthday is right around the corner. Haynes Street School will have a grand celebration on Friday March 2nd at 8:00 am. We will meet in the quad area near the cafeteria. Please bring a blanket and books that you love to read to your child. We will provide milk and donuts for parents and students. Parents can buy a cup of coffee for $1.

This has been a fantastic event in the past. Parents come and share a book with your child and start the day off with READ ACROSS AMERICA!

2013 Presidential Inauguration Tour Interest Form

2013 Presidential Inauguration Tour Interest Form - Mr. Lebovitz is coordinating a trip to Washington D.C. for the Presidential Inauguration, a program by Smithsonian Student Travel. If you are interested in participating, you can find more information and a form here. This trip is open to 4th and 5th grade students in the 2012-2013 school year (current 3rd and 4th grade students).

Starbucks location list; more information

The Starbucks location list posted yesterday came from the DonorsChoose.org website. There has been some feedback as to that list not being entirely accurate, so you may consider calling a location ahead to see if they have gifts cards.

We have learned the following from feedback from Haynes families:

The Starbucks on Canoga and Sherman Way has cards
The Starbucks in the Vons on Mulholland DID NOT have cards

This is all as-of today and may of course change.

Starbucks, DonorsChoose.org, and the Wasserman Foundation, January 23rd

"Wasserman Foundation and Starbucks

Thanks to the Wasserman Foundation, starting January 23^rd select Starbucks stores in Los Angeles will distribute $10 DonorsChoose.org gift cards with purchase, while supplies last. These gift cards can be used to support any Lost Angeles public school classroom project on DonorsChooseLA.org.

The length of time cards are available in stores will vary depending on the store. For the best chance of receiving a card, we recommend visiting a local Starbucks early on the 23rd. We estimate cards will last somewhere between 2-6 days.

Donors who already redeemed a Wasserman Foundation gift card distributed by LAUSD last year will be able to redeem an additional gift card obtained at a local Starbucks. Gift cards cannot be redeemed on behalf of others, and are limited to one per person in order to reach as many Los Angeles residents as possible. A maximum of 75 cards can be applied to projects from one teacher.

Bingo Night, Dinner, Bake Sale, all Friday Night January 20th!

Bring your good luck, and your appetite, our first Bingo Night is this Friday. We have had amazing turn-outs for all of our events this year, so come join the fun.

Food will be served at 5:30, Bingo will begin around 6:30. Be there early to eat as food cannot be eaten in the auditorium.

The 5th Grade will also have a Bake Sale to take care of that sweet tooth!

Ice Cream Sales Volunteers wanted.

Ice Cream Sales on Wednesday and Friday benefit both general Haynes fundraising and 5th grade fundraising. We need volunteers to help with selling ice cream over the next few months. All grade level parents are encouraged to help.

Winter Program Wednesday December 14th

The Winter Holiday Program is Wednesday December 14th at either 9:00 AM or 10:45 AM. Come see and support your children who have put a lot of effort into putting together another great show. You may come to either show.

Coffee, muffins and donuts will be on sale outside of the auditorium for a quick bite before entering the show.

Which ever show you attend, please try to stay to the end to support all of the children from all grades.
Please keep the center isles clear.
If you have a camera or video recorder that will be in other audience members views, please be considerate and find a place on the sides or the back of the auditorim.
Seats are first come, first serve, no saving groups of seats as the auditorium fills up fast.
Students are requested to wear white tops and dark bottoms - unless specified otherwise by their teacher.

Annual Holiday Toy Drive

Happy Holidays Haynes Street Families~

It’s time for our Annual Holiday Toy Drive and I’m thrilled to announce that we will be sponsoring Haven Hills Community Center for Women and Children this year. If you have a chance, please visit their website at www.havenhills.org The Holiday Toy Drive is a great way to include our kids and teach them the importance of giving-and receiving. We are asking that you send in a new, unwrapped toy for children of ALL ages (sometimes the teens don’t get as much). They are also highly in need of gift cards so that Moms can buy for their children (gifts and groceries). Even a picture colored by your child or a written story is special. A few years ago Mindy’s (Mrs. Levine) Kindergarten class made a life- sized Ginger Bread house! The big idea is to come together as a Haynes Street Family and help other families in need. Inspiration can be found and given in many ways this Holiday Season. Donations can be brought to the office and I will be distributing them sometime before Winter Break. If you are interested in helping, let me know. Thanks you all in advance!

Cultural Heritage Day Reminders

Thanksgiving Food Drive Still Accepting Donations

If you have a last minute Food Drive donation you may still drop it off in the Administration Office. Remember that frozen turkeys can only be brought in Tuesday the 22nd. Cultural Heritage Day Ground Cover Tarps Requested

Due to the recent rains, the grassy area where we sit for Cultural Heritage Day on November 23rd will be damp. If anyone has tarps to loan to cover the ground it would be greatly appreciated.

If you have a tarp, be sure to put your name and room number on it, and either bring them to Mrs. Schneidewind in Room 10, or bring them to the grassy area November 23rd by 12:15pm.

Cultural Heritage Celebration Wed Nov 23rd

The Cultural Heritage Celebration will be Wednesday, Nov. 23. Everyone is invited.
Please arrange with your child's homeroom teacher about when and where to bring your food.

Each grade level will need parents to help. Volunteers are encouraged to be at
Haynes by 12:15.

We would like to begin the program at about 12:50, right after lunch.

Each grade level will have something to present (song, items, or artwork).
After all presentations, students will sit by grade level to enjoy a sample of foods
from other countries that have been brought in by the students.

Lost and Found, Claim your Jackets, Lunchboxes, and other items before Tue Nov 22nd

We again have accumulated a large number of items in the Lost and Found. Items include, Jackets, lunchboxes, and other items left by students around campus.

The lost and found is right outside the back-door of the Administration Office. Students may look for their items at recess, lunch, or after school. Parents may come to the Administration Office anytime to search and claim lost items.

ALL ITEMS NOT CLAIMED BY TUESDAY NOVEMBER 22ND WILL BE DONATED!

Please understand that these items accumulate rapidly throughout the year and the school cannot store them, so they must be occasionally cleared.

A Special Haynes "Thank You" to everyone that is going to the Happy Feet Two Movie Screening November 19th. We have well over 200 tickets sold and it is promising to be another Spectacular Haynes Event.

Make sure you check your students Back Pack for your Tickets!

If you don't want to miss out, and haven't bought tickets, please see Faye in the School Administration Office. There is a very limited number of tickets left and she will be able assist you.

A reminder that Ruby's has agreed to host a special Saturday Spirit Day (restaurant Spirit Days are generally on weekdays only) so even if you don't go to the movie, be sure to grab lunch or dinner at Ruby's on Saturday the 19th. Be sure you print and bring a flyer so Haynes receives credit.

Food Drive Reminder

Just a reminder that the Food Drive is currently underway. The Food Drive benefits families from within our Haynes Community.

If you are interested in donating a frozen turkey, and are able to store it at home until November 22nd, as a tip, Pavilions is having a sale this weekend! Turkeys cannot be accepted on campus until November 22nd as we have no way to store them.

All food donations are greatly appreciated, and if monetary donations are received, a volunteer will buy items that are needed to make thier Thanksgiving meal complete.

on Saturday November 19th, do you?

If you haven't placed your order, please turn it in as soon as possible. If you can place your order by Thursday the 10th, it would help us get a better count to determine the size of the theater, but you do have until Monday the 14th to get your order in.

Reminder, this is a Private Screening, each child gets a poster, and every family gets an authentic Warner Brother Sound Track from the movie!

Keep scrolling down, because we also have a Special Saturday "Fun-raiser" Lunch after the Movie, or any time Saturday until 9pm at Ruby's Diner right next to the AMC Movie Theater! A special thanks to Ruby's for doing this on a Saturday! 20% of all food sales will be donated directly back to Haynes Street School.

Haynes has never had the opportunity to do an event like this, so show your support and make it another great memory for our kids from the 2011-2012 School Year!

Be sure to get your ticket orders in for the Haynes Street School Private Sreening of Happy Feet Two on November 19th. It is going to be a great day with not only the movie, but some great giveaways too! Keep watching for more information. We are also making special arrangements to have a special Spirit Day at Ruby's Diner at the Promenade Mall on the 19th, so after the movie you may laugh, giggle, talk about the movie, and enjoy a great lunch.

Annual Candy Split for the Frontline Foundation through November 5th.

Just a reminder that you may donate Hallween candy to the Frontline Foundation through November 5th through Haynes Street School. Divide your candy, choose a pile for yourself and one to donate, send it to school with a note it is for Frontline, and a volunteer will do the rest. It's easy and serves a great cause!

Happy Feet 2 Private Haynes Street Screening on Opening Weekend!

Haynes Street School has been given the opportunity to have a PRIVATE SCREENING of the movie Happy Feet 2 on Opening Weekend, November 19th.

We will have our own theater at the AMC Theaters at the Promenade Mall for an exclusive showing at 10:00am. Tickets must be pre-ordered, so place your orders now for this special engagement. In addition to the private screening, each child will receive a Happy Feet 2 poster, and each family will receive an official Happy Feet 2 Movie Sound Track from Warner Bros.

Halloween Spooktacular is almost here!

Remember to attend the Halloween Spooktacular Dance Party this Friday Night October 28th from 5:30 - 8:30. Wear your costumes and be ready to have an amazing time!

If you would like to volunteer to help make this a truely "Spooktacular" event, please contact jeff@haynesstreetschool.com. We would love to borrow decorations, and still need volunteers to help setup, run, and cleanup after the event. Let's make this a Halloween event the kids will remember all year long.

Hallow-Grams Still on Sale through October 28

If your student has not yet arranged to send Hallow-Grams, they may still buy them at lunch or afterschool all week. Hallo-Grams are a note and candy that can be sent to anyone on campus, and will be delivered on Halloween day. They are only $.50, and can be sent to friends, classmates, teachers, staff, or anyone on campus. Make sure you send your students with a list of who they would like to send them to and let them know to buy them at the lunch table area.

Picture Day Reminder, Thursday October 13th

Just a quick reminder that picture day is October 13th.

You should have received a picture package home with your student in the last couple of days. You can complete it and send it back to school with payment, or alternatively you can pay for the package online by credit card on the Lifetouch website.

To order and pay online, go to http://mylifetouch.com and enter Picture ID DC101284Y0. Follow the easy steps and order your pictures. Remember to print a Picture Day Pass (Step 3) and send it with your child on picture day so they know you ordered online.

School Picture Day is Thursday, October 13th

Picture day is Thursday October 13th and the photos will be taken by Lifetouch Studios. Lifetouch has a great program, and you can find Portrait Day Tips on their website.

If your student will not be in school on the 13th, there will be a make up day in early November.

Attention Regular Classroom Parent Volunteers: Lifetouch will also be taking your Volunteer Tag photos. You should be in the auditorium from 7:45 - 8:15 to take your picture. If you are unable to be there the 13th, you may alternatively go to the make up day in November.

Thank you for attending Movie Night

Thank you to everybody who attended Movie Night September 16th! We hope you had an enjoyable evening, spent some time with old friends, and had a chance to meet some new Haynes’ Families.

There were an estimated 275 people in attendance, we went through close to 200 hot dogs, and served around 400 bags of popcorn. Everybody also enjoyed great 5th grade goodies and other drinks, candies, and snacks.

We would like to thank all of our volunteers. From those who helped setup and cleanup, to our 5th grade volunteers who served desserts, to our food sales crew, everybody did an amazing job. We would especially like to thank Sean Leo for supplying the largest screen we have ever used for Movie Night and the projector to fill it, as well as George Schaffer for helping Sean in setting up the screen. We do apologize for supplying him with a scratched DVD, and will ensure the next Movie Night, next spring, does not have technical difficulties.

Volunteers are what make these great events happen and we need every parent to be involved in some manner this year. Please volunteer for at least one event or job, small or large, to help make this an amazing Haynes Street School year.

Thank you to everybody who has already submitted a PTO Volunteer Form. If you haven’t yet submitted a form, one will be coming home with your student soon, or you can download it immediately from the Forms Section of the website. When you submit your form, please list your 1^st, 2^nd, and 3^rd choice next to the tasks, and date the form so we can fill jobs in a first come, first serve order. Every parent and teacher is automatically a member of the PTO, and we need your help to make this year memorable for all of our students.

We are also looking immediately for a Volunteer Coordinator. This person will match people to tasks from the forms, and also help track who will be able to assist at each event. Of course, no experience is necessary and we can give you suggestions and help to organize the process. Please contact jeff@haynesstreetschool.com if you would consider this position.

School Spirit Sponsorship

A form has been posted to the Website for 2011-2012 School Spirit Sponsorship.

Haynes Street Elementary and PTO is much more than a school, it is a family! Your generous sponsorship towards your child's education is tax exempt and will help us achieve our Sponsorship fund raising goal of $10,000, which breaks down to $25.00 per child.

All money raised will help fund LAUSD budget deficits in our school, including, but not limited to, student workbooks, allocations for buses for student field trips, technology, special events, school supplies and much more.

We encourage Students to wear Haynes Spirit Clothing or Navy Blue and Gold every Friday, as well as on any field trips.

There will be a merchandise booth at Movie Night Friday September 16th where you can purchase T-shirts, Sweatshirts, Hoodies, and Totes. You can also preview the items on the website (online ordering is not yet available).
